Happy New Year and welcome to our first challenge of 2012 at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week we want you to save some trees and RE-PURPOSE PAPER TOWELS, TOILET PAPER OR COFFEE FILTERS. Instead of buying some designer paper for your project, go to your kitchen or bathroom and grab one of the above items and let's see how you can transform it and incorporate it into your vintage, shabby chic or primitive card or other paper-crafted project.
This week one random winner will receive a digi of our choice and a winner's badge to display. In addition, the Design Team will choose one project as Card of the Week and the creator will receive a badge and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.
I created two projects for this week, I used coffee filters that I soaked all day in some left over coffee and after squeezing out the extra, smoothed out and left to dry. Rick's words when seeing the bowl "I will have to see that mess on a card"! I die cut several circle shapes from one of the two filters and then stamped randomly with a Hero Arts text stamp using Versafine Vintage Sepia ink. I used part of a rumpled torn piece as my background over pieces of design paper from a vintage kit by Deja Views. My card base is chocolate brown Gina K card stock which is so heavy and lovely to use. I used a frame from the same kit to layer on a piece cut with a Spellbinders Labels 4. I had stamped a flourish image from Stampin' Up "Elements of Style". The circle shapes were also stamped with the text and then scrunched and layered to create my flowers which I attached with Stampin' Up brads. For my inside I used some of the same design paper stamped with more of the flourish and a Thanks sentiment. I really like how the texture of the paper gave the image a washed vintage look.
For my next project, I wanted to create a Gratitude journal. Seems as if I have been a bit of a bear lately and thought if I counted the small things to be grateful for each day, maybe it would help me and my attitude. Don't get me wrong, I am so blessed and grateful for my life, home and family, but sometimes care giving just kind of overwhelms me. I just need a kick in the pants, maybe.....lol.
But surely writing in this book should help, I love the look of it. It is just a 100 page notebook that I picked up long ago at Michael's in the dollar bin and the background flourishes were already there. I added layered Labels 4 dies stamping the ivory one with images by Stampin' Up in their set "Happy Harmony" (how appropriate). The chipboard pieces I antiqued with distress inks....see my monogram P! The flower is more of my text stamped coffee filter.
For the inside I used all of the stamps from this set, stamping randomly throughout the book. I am going to love writing in this, maybe my first entry should be " I am grateful for such a pretty book to write in". Here is a look at the front and back inside covers.
Our new Design Team is in place and everyone has worked hard to create some inspiration for you. I am so happy to have the new ladies starting today and look forward to the months ahead. Welcome!!!If you want details on how they re-purposed the various items, click on their names to go directly to their blogs.
Now off you go to Sugar Creek Hollow and have fun looking around. We can't wait to see what you come up with. Thanks for stopping by....hugs and wishes for a great day!

Patti,
I am sitting here with my jaw dropping just looking at both of your fabulous projects! First of all, I don't think you need a kick in the pants - just dust off that jewel in your crown. You have really put the glamour in "repurpose". I can totally understand your husband's amazement. I love both of your projects, but the journal just blows me away! Happy Harmony is one of my favorites too. God bless you and will be seeing you around!
Hugs and blessings,
Marsha
Oh my gosh, Patti, this card and journal are visions of lovliness! Bet DH was stunned with what you could do with a mess of coffee filters!!
Wow both your projects are beautiful ,love the vintage feel and great flowers. Don't think you need a kick in the pants at all
Marilyn
Fantastic projects, Patti! Both are just gorgeous! So many wonderful details! Love them!
your post made me smile - my DH would have said same thing!! that is a neat idea and will try it - what did he say when he saw how you used the filters?
your card is so soft and elegant...
and your journal - what a wonderful creation - you will enjoy writing in it for sure. Dont be so hard on yourself... you've heard "spirit is willing and flesh is weak"...caregiving is very hard and can be so overwhelming. That old flesh wants you to complain but that isnt you, not by a long shot! You are a blessing for sure...enjoy that gorgeous journal
hugs (-:
Your card is beautiful Patti, the flower is gorgeous, but your notebook is just awesome, I love everything about it, trouble is if it were mine I would just want to look and feel it and never want to write in it. I hope you enjoy writing your notes in it. Have a good weekend.
Pat xx
I have to totally DITTO Marsha's comment! Wow, wow, WOW! Love everything here today. When my dear grandmother passed away, we were going through her things, and nearly pitch a little spiral bound memo book. How happy we were that we didn't! Inside she had prayed daily for family members, world troubles, etc., and it was so nice seeing in her own handwriting, her prayers for me to safely deliver our son (36 years ago!), etc. Sorry this is so lengthy - my point is that some day, you will awe your children as they read this many years down the road! Good for you, my friend! Hugs...
I'm blown away, this or rather both the card and journal are jaw dropping beauties!!!!!
Awww Patti, you are way to hard on yourself! Your a wonderful giving lady... only people like you can be care givers! Your journal is beautiful... just looking at it should make you feel better! Your card is just as gorgeous!
Hi Patti, both of your projects are just stunning. What a lovely gift this would make. Great use of kraft and vintage colors. Hope you are having a blessed new year!
I am not sure where to begin, well actually I do, I need to get up off the floor, which is where I landed after looking at your gorgeous projects. How creative soaking the coffee filter in the coffee and just love the flowers. Now on to your notebook, wow, just love it and great idea to actually stamp on the inside. TFS
Stunning work Patti on both projects - wow!!
Both projects are absolutely gorgeous. I love the way you coloured the coffee filters. I also love the shape of the flower on the card.
Hugs!
Cec
Was here yesterday but didn't have time to leave you a comment. These are gorgeous and beautiful creative projects. Love them both! I've 3 journals downstairs that I can't figure out what I want to do with them. This is so inspiring maybe I'll get one done this week. Trying to get an email off to you later tonight or tomorrow. "Hugs"
Oh, Patti.. this is beautiful. I love what you have created. Both projects are beautiful. And, I love the idea to tint the filters in coffee.. that's thinking outside the coffee cup! I'm looking forward to more challenges with you on SCH. Peggy x
Patti,
These are visions of beauty! I love the look totally. I bet your dh is in amazement. The caregiver part is very hard, just take some time to go out back and breath. When you come back in things will look different I promise. Being winter doesn't help at all clouds and no sun.
WOWeeeeeee these are amazing projects, sooooo beautiful, love how you have put them all together, just beautiful.
Thanks for your comment on my card, much apprreciated.
